Every month I co-captain two Twitter chats via @womenoncomics. A Comic Book Club (#WWACComicClub) which takes place on the first Monday of every month. And a Book Club (#WWACBookClub) which takes place on the third Monday of every month. These are our upcoming selections.

Our August Book Club pick is: Insignia by S J Kincaid (HarperTeen).

The earth is in the middle of WWIII in Insignia, the first entry in S. J. Kincaid’s fast-paced sci-fi adventure trilogy perfect for fans of Ender’s Game.

The planet’s natural resources are almost gone, and war is being fought to control the assets of the solar system. The enemy is winning. The salvation may be Tom Raines. Tom doesn’t seem like a hero. He’s a short fourteen-year-old with bad skin. But he has the virtual-reality gaming skills that make him a phenom behind the controls of the battle drones.

As a new member of the Intrasolar Forces, Tom’s life completely changes. Suddenly, he’s someone important. He has new opportunities, friends, and a shot at having a girlfriend. But there’s a price to pay. . . .

We’ll be discussing Insignia on August 18th 2014 at 8:30 PM EST. If you’re interested in Insignia or have already read it, follow @womenoncomics and use the hashtag #WWACBookClub to take part.

Our September Comic Club pick is: Y the Last Man: Volume 1 by Brian K Vaughan & Pie Guerra (Image)

“Y” is none other than unemployed escape artist Yorick Brown (his father was a Shakespeare buff), and he’s seemingly the only male human left alive after a mysterious plague kills all Y-chromosome carriers on earth. But why are he and his faithful companion, the often testy male monkey Ampersand, still alive? He sets out to find the answer (and his girlfriend), while running from angry female Republicans (now running the government), Amazon wannabes that include his own sister (seemingly brainwashed), and other threats.

We’ll be discussing Y the Last Man on August 18th 2014 at 8:30 PM EST. If you’re interested in this series or have already read it, follow @womenoncomics and use the hashtag #WWACComicClub to take part.
